Today, we discover a Danish hopeful who’s not exactly Danish. And she’s got a whole lot of experience when it comes to Eurovision!

Meet Johanna Beijbom!
Elle existe en français !

Hej Johanna! Can you please introduce yourself?

My name is Johanna Beijbom, I´m 29 years old and I live in Sweden. I´m a very positive and happy girl who lives through music. I´ve have been singing all my life and when I was 14 years old I started to work with the famous Eurovision songwriter Thomas G:son who wrote the ESC 2012 winner song Euphoria with Loreen. In 2007 I got the opportunity to be the backing vocalist for Malta in ESC. The biggest moment in my musical career this far was of course in 2012 when I went to Baku with Loreen as her backing vocalist in ESC. And as you know, we won! After that I was Georgia´s backing vocalist in ESC 2013. And in 2015 I went to Vienna with Denmark as their backing vocalist in ESC.

With all this experience I got asked the question if I wanted to be in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix as a solo artist. Of course I said yes because that had been my biggest dream since I saw Carola for the first time in the Swedish Melodifestivalen. This has been one of my musical goals in life so I´m so grateful for this.

Can you tell us about your song? What does Eurovision mean to you?

ASAP was written by 6 fantastic songwriters, Peter Wallevik, Daniel Davidsen, Freja Bloomberg, Dimitri Stassos, Pat Divine and Christian Fast. I got the song in my mailbox and I loved it. I went to a studio in Sweden and recorded it, sent it back and after a few weeks they called me from Denmark and said that my song was one of the 10 for the Melodi Grand Prix 2017. It was too big to take in, I was so happy and thankful. This is my first own song, so this means a lot for me. The song is about love, and the feeling you get when you really want someone. It makes me want to dance all night long with a big smile on my mouth. I love it.

I´ve never missed a Eurovision semi final or final since I was a little girl. I love the whole thing about Eurovision. People come from all over Europe to share this moment together. Eurovision is about building bridges between countries and we do it with music. Music is a world language and together we are one. This has been my biggest dream since I saw Carola for the first time in the Swedish Melodifestivalen. And I want to share my music and happiness with the rest of the world. Never give up on your dream, remember that.
DMGP has been like that for a long time, and I think that it works out really well in Denmark. It´s hard to say why the country has failed recently but it feels that we can make a fantastic comeback this year. From Denmark, I really liked The Olsen Brothers in 2000, with Fly on the wings of love. And from Sweden I must say Loreen, Euphoria, because that song means a lot to me.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I love all types of music. And what I listen to depends on my mood. But I love pop/disco songs and rock music is close to my heart.
Carola has been one of my big music inspirations since I was a little girl. She´s a pro on the stage and can handle all type of songs and genres.
Beyoncé has the best voice in the world.

What is your point of view on the world?

I think that we need to show more love and respect for each other. Together we are one. Injustice makes me really sad, and any type of violence. My family and friends are my biggest support in life and I´m so thankful for their love. The love and happiness that they give to me is priceless. All the fantastic people in the audience, they give me so much energy. And of course music. Music is my life, I breathe music.

Johanna, thank you so much for this interview! She will be one of the 10 DMGP finalists this Saturday, with her song ASAP.
